Robert F. Plotkin MD, the founding father of Broomall Pediatrics, passed away on March 11, 2020.

Dr. Plotkin, a graduate of Temple Medical School, began his practice in the early 1950’s; in the days of house calls, before the polio and measles vaccines. He earned the nickname “Captain Midnight” for his late night rounds at the community hospitals.

As chairman of the Bryn Mawr Hospital for over 20 years, Dr. Plotkin established the neonatal intensive care unit at Bryn Mawr, expanding intensive and critical newborn care in the community.

Always affable, ever a gentleman, Dr. Plotkin will be missed by colleagues and families. We at Advocare Broomall Pediatrics are grateful to Dr. Plotkin for creating a caring warm pediatric community that has thrived for generations.

The Robert F. Plotkin Scholarship at Marple Newtown High School is extended annually to a graduating senior entering the health care profession.
